Thompson Construction Group holds 5th Annual Safety Celebration

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. held its fifth annual Safety Celebration at
La Piazza and the Sumter Opera House in downtown Sumter. The event brought 250 employees together to recognize nearly 150 individuals for their safety performance over the last year.

The Safety Celebration awards are given to operational leaders and safety professionals who exceeded our safety goals in 2022. Individuals from each division of the company were recognized including maintenance services; capital projects; power services; hydro consulting and maintenance services; government services; and Thompson Turner Construction. The University of South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer delivered the keynote address, sharing his thoughts on leadership, influence, and success.

Thompson Construction currently has a “world-class” safety ranking with a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.51. The construction industry average is 1.6 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Safety is what drives the culture at Thompson,” says Vice President of Safety and Risk Management Dean Kuhlman. “2022 was our safest year on record due in large part to the individuals who we recognized at the Safety Celebration. Our safety leaders foster and sustain our culture of safety through educating, influencing, and empowering workers at all levels. This is how we protect our people and maintain a world-class safety ranking.”
